Smartie Pants Academy Center Houston is a 501 (c) (3) childcare center in Houston, Texas that specializes in childcare for children with disabilities. Our mission at Smartie Pants Academy Center Houston is to provide a safe, learning environment for children with special needs and their siblings. At Smartie Pants Academy Center Houston students will be given the opportunity to have an individualized education plan geared towards their individualized needs while being taught the life skills needed to become functional citizens in our community. At Smartie Pants Academy Center Houston students will not only learn but will also be loved.
The vision of Smartie Pants Academy Center is to educate, promote, and produce successful individuals that despite their disability can become productive individuals in their community. Five years from now, Smartie Pants Academy Center will have helped create a safer, more promising daycare for special needs children by helping them acquire the education, skills, and resources needed to build self-sufficient prosperous lives.
OUR FOUNDER & EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Sumiko Hamilton-Hervey has taught Special Education students at the elementary, middle, and high school level. Sumiko holds a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Sociology from the University of North Texas, Masters of Public Administration from Texas Southern University and a Masters of Educational Administration from Prairie View A&M University.
Sumiko is currently pursuing her Ed.D in Education with a specialize in Special Education at the University of Houston. She is a huge advocate for children with disabilities. She works closely with Katy ISD and CyFair ISD to ensure the students of Smartie Pants Academy Center Houston receives the correct placement, accommodations, and modifications for a successful school year.
Her goal is to make Smartie Pants Academy Center Houston a safe place where special needs children are loved and can learn based on their individual needs while providing supplemental instruction to ensure development and growth.
She wrote her first children’s book titled,
“I’m Normal Too, Josh and his Voice Output Device," in 2013.
